About Experience
Based on eastern medicine practices beginning over 3,000 years ago, Ayurveda is a practice of viewing health in terms of mind, body, and soul. Everything is connected. Every being is made up of the five elements in the universe: space, air, fire, water and earth. These combine in the human body to form 3 life forces, or energies, called Doshas. Vata - Space and Air Pita - Fire and Water Kapha - Water and Earth Everyone inherits a unique balance of the three dosas, but usually one is more prominent. Individuals with a predominately Vata dosa, for example, are characterised as being light, airy, cool and dry - an agile mind, but perhaps prone to forgetting things. These individuals are creative, dynamic, on the move. When someone who has a predominately vata dosha is out of balance, they may become tired easily, forgetful, scattered, difficulty falling asleep, lack of circulation and physically cold. Thus, to balance out the prominence of the space and air elements, Vata should avoid cold food and drink, as well as astringent, sour or bitter foods. Vata should instead eat foods that are warming, nurturing and grounding such as mung bean soup, dahls, warm spices like ginger, cumin, cinnamon, as well as ripe sweet and juicy fruits. A vata in balance will be energetic, learn easily, clear and focused. To learn more about your dosha, which foods to eat, and how to prepare them, join us Saturday, Feberuary 11th! Our resident vegan chef, Lindsay, will help you identify your predominant dosha, what it means, and how to prepare the ingredients best suited for your body. Each person will take an Ayuverdic body type assessment, learn about his/her predominant dosha, the foods to eat or avoid, and receive a curated list of recipes created by Lindsay! Lindsay will then lead a cooking class where you’ll utilise the knowledge of your Dosha and experience the benefits of an ayuverdic diet! Lindsay is a vegan chef that has been with Open Hearts since December 2022. She chooses ingredients that are grown locally, organically and in season. She is always baking gluten free, naturally sweetened cakes that can be enjoyed daily at Open Hearts. She’s currently working on her own specialty vegan, gluten free cook book. Stay tuned for more delicious foods. 45€ per person
